Are you concerned about how the Iowa Legislature is funding schools next year?

Do you wish to learn more about how you can influence the discussion?

In response to concerns over the lower-than-expected proposed state funding from Iowa schools for the next two school years, the Hanawalt Education Advocacy Team (HEAT) has invited representatives of Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS) to speak on the district’s overall legislative priorities and address how potential legislation would affect DMPS children, teachers, and staff. The DMPS representatives will also provide information on the district’s overall mission and goals. This is a great opportunity to hear directly from DMPS leadership.

Please join us on Monday, March 9th

Hanawalt Commons

226 56th Street

6:30pm – 7:30pm

The goal of the meeting is to educate DMPS parents and concerned residents so that we can responsibly advocate for the needs of DMPS in the current Iowa legislative session. After the meeting, HEAT will develop multiple strategies for constituents to share their opinions with legislators prior to the legislature’s final votes on school funding.

*while this meeting is sponsored by Hanawalt/HEAT, families from all DMPS schools and any interested residents are welcome!
